Episode 2: Dr. Wanda Costen began her term as Dean of Smith School of
Business in July 2021. An academic leader who champions
inclusive excellence, she brings a unique combination of experience
in academia — as a Dean, senior administrator, researcher, and
professor — as well as a private and public sector management
career in sales, operations, and human resources.
To accomplish goals, Dean Costen strategizes with civic and
business leaders, and campus stakeholders—faculty, staff, students,
and alumni. Her collaborative approach synthesizes experiences from
the military, private industry, and higher education in the United
States and Canada.
Dr. Costen’s research interests include managing diversity,
racial and gender inequality in organizations, women and
leadership, and strategic human resources.
Dean Costen earned a Ph.D. in sociology at Washington State
University, an EMBA from Pepperdine University, and a Bachelor of
Science from the United States Military Academy.
